Let 2025 (and yourself) be messy.
Well, the clock struck midnight and here we are. Again. Intense energies that are exhausting, astrological placements that are challenging, and the feeling that this year, even though we’re only a few weeks into it might have its fair share of disruptions, chaos, and “what the actual f*ck?!” moments. Just like every one of the past several years.
As someone with the gift of being a collective empath, I feel the energies swirling around and there are undercurrents of support, togetherness, and excitement beneath the anxiety, fear and chaos. This year is going to be one where we need to decide how we want to experience it individually because we can easily be pulled into polarizing energy if we leave it up to external factors to direct us.
This doesn’t mean burying our heads in the sand and being delulu about what’s going on or not standing up and fighting for the change we want to see. It is about knowing what we have the energy to fight for, and where we need to step back, protect our individual energy, and let others be the fighters and generals of those battles.
With that said, let 2025 be messy. And perhaps more importantly, let yourself be messy if you’re just not feeling “IT”. To try and make this year the year you “finally get your sh*t together” as a dear friend of mine recently proclaimed, feels like trying to force a set of energies to operate how we want it to, when in reality they have their own agendas of change and upheaval (for the good) that are just too strong to go against.
Not every time period in our lives is designed to be productive in the ways we think it should be.
One of the most helpful concepts I took away from therapy was that of sociometric seasons, the idea that our lives go through periods of spring-planting, summer-enjoying what we planted, fall-shedding what no longer serves, and winter-resting and reflecting. We can experience these for various periods of time, but the cycle is always operating.
Collectively, the energy suggests we’re going to be going through fall, winter, and spring, with little summer and possibly a lot of time spent in fall and winter, a collective shedding and reflecting that we desperately need.
Individually you may be coming out of a winter cycle and ready to plant some new ideas and bring new routines into your life. You may experience the joys of a summer period where you reap the benefits of what you’ve been sowing in your spring time. You may also be going through your own fall and winter period where trying to force new will only frustrate you as it’s in opposition to the energetic season of your life.
If that latter feels like your experience, allow it to be your experience.
This is a year to really take the pressure off of ourselves to perform. To take stock of what isn’t benefiting us, where we’re leaking our energy, areas of our lives that are square pegs we’ve been attempting to make fit in round holes, and just let ourselves and our energy breathe while we evaluate what stays and what can go.
Opt out of productivity for the sake of productivity. Quiet quit. Exercise only when you truly have the energy for it. Let the house get cluttered. Buy the premade sides at the grocery store. Let your greys grow out. Spend your nights with tea and a book instead of doom scrolling. Opt out of social media. Refuse to comply with social norms that make you feel constricted and restricted.
Be messy. Because sometimes that’s the most supportive thing we can do for ourselves.
Hugs,
Elena
