Let’s get this out of the way right from the get go: 

Human Design is powerful — but it’s not a magic pill.

It won’t guarantee you’ll be a millionaire. It won’t automatically align your career. And it definitely won’t do the inner work for you.

As much as I credit HD for helping me recalibrate my career and life, and as much as I love using it to help clients, it is not a set of finally tuned GPS directions to a life of never-ending success, satisfaction, or joy. 

While a lot of Human Design readers might disagree with me on that point, I have seen way too many people develop a toxic, codependent, and damn near addictive relationship with their chart to the point that they cannot make a decision without consulting it. 

From obsessing over specific gates (Use your conscious Mercury for marketing! Align your offers using your unconscious Jupiter gate!) to blaming their procrastination on their Line 1 profile, to constantly searching for more information on their variables, etc. their minds become hostages to their bodygraphs.

Which is the exact opposite of what Human Design teaches us. 

Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Body

The HD system has one main component that consistently gets overlooked: Using your body to make decisions instead of your mind. 

Why should we rely on the body for our decisions? Because our minds are easily infiltrated and programmed by every other human and media source we encounter. Our bodies, meanwhile, house our soul — our true compass and north star in this lifetime. Our Authority in HD is our guide to understand how our bodies communicate what is and is not for us at any given time.  

In fact, the only thing you really need to do to “follow” your Human Design chart is to use your Strategy and Authority. That’s it. Everything else in your chart will naturally express itself correctly and at the right time if you do this. 

Yet, the mind often will not allow us to do so. The Human Design Bodygraph (aka Chart) has an almost overwhelming amount of information (hence why the first time I got my HD chart, I took one look at and said “I don’t have time for all this esoteric crap” and did not look at it for another year and a half) and if there’s one thing our minds love, it’s playing with data. 

Analyzing (and overanalyzing) information — especially when it’s about ourselves — gives the mind the illusion that it’s “working on” something.

It makes us feel productive, when in reality, we’re often just avoiding action or responsibility.

How to Stop Overintellectualizing Your HD Chart 

If you’ve fallen into analysis paralysis, or dare I say even a toxic relationship with your Human Design chart, put it down, walk away for a bit and then ask yourself: Why am I relying on a chart to tell me what to do? 

Truthfully, the answer is because you’re still conditioned to be living from the not-self of the mind. We’re highly trained to be doers, not be-ers, so our default is always “what do I need to DO to get (insert name of thing you want here)???”  

If there’s one thing HD excels at, it’s helping us understand where we’ve been conditioned to outsource our power, our authority, our self-worth, etc. and where we’ve been relying on our minds to make decisions for us. 

To truly make Human Design “work” for you, here’s what you need to do: 

Learn your Type. Practice your Strategy. Follow your Authority — yes, even when it feels weird or inconvenient. Observe what happens. Adjust. Repeat. Notice the crazy stuff your mind brings up and recalibrate the unhelpful beliefs as they come up.

That’s it. That’s the work.

And if you’re thinking “but that means I might have to fail a few times before I understand what works for me“, you are correct. Even if you don’t have a 3 Line Profile, life (and business) requires us all to f-around and find out.

Human Design can narrow down what things will most likely work for us, but the only way to know for sure is to try them out and see what happens. This is why HD is called an “experiment” and not a “strategy”.

Let your body (aka your Authority) guide you to what feels right in the moment and see how it all plays out.

You are not a chart. You are not your gates. You are not your Profile or your Variables or your incarnation cross.

You are a human being. Living in a body and navigating this world with emotions, history, trauma, brilliance, intuition, and choice. 

Let your body — not your chart — be the ultimate guide you follow.
