Can We Talk About Pluto in Aquarius Again? I have some opinions…
Admittedly, I’m still learning about astrology so if my non-expert status is a no-go for you, feel free to click off this post and thanks for stopping by!
Where I will give myself props is my ability to put pieces together (INFJs unite!) and play the tape forward so to speak (Human Design Projector here). And when it comes to the topic of Pluto in Aquarius that was oh so popular just a few months ago, I have some insights I’d like to share.
Pluto is named after the Roman god of the Underworld. Not surprisingly he rules death, rebirth, change, transformation, and depth. In the most predictable move ever, he was anointed the modern-day ruler of Scorpio, the astrological sign known for its intensity, deep feels, and lack of tolerance for the superficial.
In astrology, Pluto is where we experience intense transformation and profound, deep shifts. He’s not here for the surface level by a long shot.
Since he’s an outer planet with a slow-moving orbit, he’s considered a generational planet and only switches signs every 11-32 years. This means that a lot of what Pluto has to offer is on a more global, collective level as opposed to a more personal impact like our faster moving neighbors Venus and Mars have on us.
Where I think people get too caught up is the assumption that as a transformation hard-ass he’s going to f-ck around and cause destruction just for kicks. I don’t take this view of Pluto or any of the other malefic or “disruptive” planets (like my homeboy and chart ruler, Uranus).
If something is built on solid ground and is beneficial, it’s not going to be destroyed. Only that which is not stable, built on false pretenses, or maladaptive for us is going to be brought up for transformation.
Bottom Line: Pluto isn’t a jerk for the sake of being a jerk. He’s here to dig into the depths and pull up anything that needs reworking for our collective benefit in the long run.
When Pluto mainly moved out of Capricorn (he’s going to retrograde back into this sign in 2024 before permanently moving on) and into the sign of Aquarius you’d have thought it was an astrological jackpot.
Capricorn isn’t exactly known for being the zodiac’s glamourous and sexy sign. It often gets the rap of being boring, a workaholic, conservative, too steady, and dull. If Capricorn were a color, it would be beige.
Pluto in Capricorn shed light on power, what goes on behind the scenes in power structures like government and corporations, and paradigms around hustle culture, etc.
Aquarius, meanwhile, is the rebellious air sign that, like its ruler Uranus, is here to shake things up, find unconventional solutions for humanity’s woes, and help us define what freedom truly is. If Aquarius were a color, it would be iridescent glitter.
Aquarius is the domain of technology, social media, AI, science, energy, and is very very much the humanitarian.
And here’s where I think a lot of people’s predictions start to unravel…
The assumption that we’ll see huge strides in AI and huge moves towards machines and even more technology in our daily lives to make things better for us as a collective.
I’m calling it right now: I think it’s going to be the opposite.
Pluto is here to bring the deep dark crud we don’t want to look at, up to the surface for us to LOOK AT. He’s here to be a catalyst for deep transformation for the collective. He’s NOT here to blindly promote Aquarius’s suite of goods like an influencer on TikTok.
And let’s talk about TikTok for a hot second. The US voted to ban the platform, stating concerns over China’s involvement, data security and ownership, etc. unless the company that owns it, sells it.
Some will say this is the US government flexing its control. To me, this is Pluto in Aquarius being Pluto in Aquarius.
It’s an overrun platform that has massive integrity issues, misinformation, scams, etc. It lacks integrity. It lacks transparency. It’s a technology that is not very beneficial for humanity, and therefore, Pluto has brought it up for review.
And it’s not going to be the only domino to fall. It’s simply the first victim of Pluto pointing out what ain’t working in the domain of Aquarius.
Humans are naturally hardwired for connection. We cannot thrive with it. Period. And one of the most alienating things for people to experience is to be located in a geographical area with not your people.
Before social media you would have needed to move to a place that seemed like a better fit, cross your fingers, and hope to hell it worked it out.
With the internet and social media, making connections with people online has opened so many doors for so many people to develop relationships with other humans that they would have never met in real life. Geographical distance became unimportant. Anyone and everyone on Earth is suddenly a possible friend.
Yet, somehow, we’re more miserable than ever despite this newfound way of connecting.
And I really feel like this is coming to a head.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to look away from the negative impact of social media on our mental health. More and more people seem to be over and done with it, deleting their accounts or at least the apps from their phones.
I have also noticed a really interesting trend that seems to support my argument: The lack of views and engagement on platforms like Instagram and Youtube.
Go onto Threads (Instagram’s Twitter/X platform) and you’ll see no end of folks bemoaning their Instagram reels getting 2% of the usual views and likes.
Online coaches asking about how people are selling if no one’s buying on Instagram (another blog for another day).
YouTube creators leaving the platform completely or seeking out alternative sources of income because their channels aren’t performing as well and their videos aren’t getting pushed out to as many people as usual.
And while everyone blames algorithm changes, I am once again going to point out that this looks a lot to me like Pluto in Aquarius doing Pluto in Aquarius things.
Maybe it’s not the algorithms per se. Maybe it’s a bunch of increasingly obvious hints that how we use social media needs to change. Before we no longer have it as an option.
I simply do not see social media being around in its current iteration much longer.
Influencers have become a dime a dozen and cluttered the platforms to the point its difficult to find the kind of content you’re actually interested in.
Pressure for beautifully curated feeds and gorgeous aesthetics make it a turn off for folks who just want to use it for real, unfiltered, unglamourous connections with like minded humans. (Not to mention the comparison trap it promotes from the moment you open the apps.)
It’s no longer a slam-dunk, or even mostly viable, marketing tool for entrepreneurs/solopreneurs/business owners. Trying to get your services or products in front of the right people requires god-like patience as you hope your content somehow gets through the firewall of 634,297 reels on “make six-figures doing affiliate marketing!”
It’s an absolute soul-draining cluster f*ck of infinite proportions.
Will social media die out completely? I’m not that fatalistic (and its still making Mark Zuckerberg a lot of moohlah). But between bots, hackers, data breaches, etc. social media has become an oversaturated market and a cesspool.
And I know we’re all tired of it.
And so is Pluto. And he’s not one to mess around.
Start looking for groups in real life (MeetUp can be a great source of in-your-area activities). Volunteer. Look for ways to be more involved in local politics, etc. If you’re not vibing with your area, look into moving.
I really see us transitioning back to our local communities and putting social media and technology in its rightful place: as a nice to have, not a need-to-have.
Because if anyone has the “if you can’t use it correctly, I’m taking it away” mom-vibes, its Pluto.
But then again, what do I know? I’m not an expert 😉
